Neon Dreams Cinema Club: Brian De Palma’s SCARFACE

Nothing says Christmas quite like cocaine, palm trees, and chainsaws!

Originally released in December of 1983 to extreme controversy, Brian De Palma’s brutally violent “remake” of 1932’s SCARFACE was slapped with an X-rating and panned for being a “relentlessly bitter, satirical tale of greed, in which all supposedly decent emotions are sent up for the possible ways in which they can be perverted” (NY Times). A description which, in our opinion, could not be more appropriate for the holiday season.

Neon Dreams invites you to push this Christmas to the limit and join us for a trip to Miami, the perfect place to bask in the pastel palette of consumerism and neon glow of corporate greed. Brian De Palma’s now-iconic gangster opera is the perfect antithesis to anyone exhausted by this time of the year and will have you leaving the theatre humming a very different holiday jingle courtesy of Giorgio Moroder. Make no mistake — this is the only Christmas party you need to attend this year. No ugly sweaters required. Tropical shirts encouraged!

This screening and others are made possible thanks to our wonderful sponsor Hollywood Suite. As always this will be a fully licensed event featuring a fabulous on-screen pre-show. Be sure to arrive early!
