Neon Dreams Cinema Club: THE LEGEND OF BILLIE JEAN – 35mm!

The year is 1985. It’s time to grab your Honda scooter and road trip your way through Texas with a banging Pat Benatar theme song in the tape deck as you seek social justice with THE LEGEND OF BILLIE JEAN! In what could be considered an ‘80s teen feminist version of Natural Born Killers, Helen Slater becomes a fugitive from the law after being falsely accused of a robbery just for seeking payback for the $608 in damages for her brother Christian Slater’s (no actual relation) Honda Aero scooter caused by some dirtbag boys. When she hits the road with a gang of teen runaways (including Yeardley “Lisa Simpson” Smith) she unwittingly becomes a local hero and inspiration to girls across the nation for her take-no-shit-from-gross-dudes attitude.

In a time when excess reigned, BILLIE JEAN holds its own with stunning locales, raging soundtrack, and boisterous anti-adult rebellion. In some ways the most progressive and forward thinking film of its era, this truly is a film for our times. And Neon Dreams has got it for you on a beautiful 35mm print. So start pumping those fits in the air, and get ready to scream “FAIR IS FAIR”!

This screening and others are made possible thanks to our wonderful sponsor Hollywood Suite. As always this will be a fully licensed event featuring a fabulous on-screen pre-show. Be sure to arrive early!
