Retropath!: ROCK & RULE

Calling all nostalgia-freaks and celluloid junkies! Are you looking for the latest cinematic thrill? Retropath! has you covered. Specializing in the best flicks to stumble onto the screen, this series is guaranteed to deliver the wildest that cinema has to offer. Retropath! also features a unique lobby pop-up for each screening, featuring local artists with weird and wonderful work for sale!

ROCK & RULE opens by telling the audience that in 1983, a nuclear attack created mutated animal-human hybrids, living in the streets during World War III. There, we find Mok, and legendary but aging musician who seeks the perfect voice to unleash a demon, so that he can halt his dwindling popularity and go out in flames of glory. After Mok sees Angel, Omar, Dizzy and Stretch’s band perform, he becomes obsessed with Angel’s heavenly voice, and is convinced that she has the voice he needs to fulfill his desires.

Featuring Debbie Harry as the singing voice of Angel, Lou Reed as the singing voice of Mok, alongside music from Iggy Pop, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Cheap Trick – ROCK & RULE is a veritable parade of some of the era’s biggest names in music. Produced by Canadian animation studio Nelvana (THE DEVIL AND DANIEL MOUSE), this film was initially intended to be for children, but after several changes over the course of its many years in production, it eventually incorporated drug use, satanism, sexuality and profanity and thus was only marketed to an adult audience. Fans of heady trips like HEAVY METAL rejoice, and sit back and enjoy the ride that is ROCK & RULE!
