Roses, Rings & Restraining Orders: FEAR

FEBRUARY 15, 2020 – 8:00 p.m.
With his puppy dog eyes and baby-sized polo tees, David (Mark Wahlberg, never better) is as irresistible to sweet, wholesome Nicole (Reese Witherspoon) as he is unhinged. Nicole’s dad (William Petersen) instantly has David’s wrong-side-of-the-tracks stink sniffed out, but the rest of her family and friends (including a sublimely over-the-top Alyssa Milano) slip easily under his thrall. Until it’s too late, of course, and David’s sketchy behavior turns possessive, then violent, then homicidal, and then – with the aid of a playing dart and a blob of ink – really terrifying. Before churning out the second and third Fifty Shades of Greys, director James Foley helped elevate the erotic teen thriller sub-genre of the ‘90s to its fever pitch with this perverse crowdpleaser that took an entire MTV-munching generation on a rollercoaster ride toward sexual awakening. Totally batshit outrageous and problematically steamy, Fear remains #1 in the genre 4 EVA.
