An exciting cultural event is coming to the Royal Theatre on August 6th! Panazz: The Story gives an intimate look at the Trinidadian jazz steelpan ensemble primarily from the perspectives of four of its key players, Barry Bartholomew (leader), Dane Gulston, Natasha Joseph, and Donell Thomas.

The musical phenomenon began in the early 1990s when Barry Bartholomew and Yohan Popwell formed the ensemble initially to compete in Pan Ramajay, a competition that sought to highlight the improvisational skills of individual pannists in small ensembles.

After winning four consecutive years, Panazz pulled out of the competitive arena to embark on their professional journey which saw them captivate international audiences with their electrifying performances in renowned venues spanning from Boston Symphony Hall to some of the finest concert halls in Japan.

At the core of the film lies the groundbreaking music produced by Panazz for its five CDs. At the heart of Panazz itself was an immense love that bound the players as a collective unit. Together, they contributed to the elevation of Trinidad and Tobago’s national instrument.

One of the most compelling writers in music today, Stephan Moccio possesses a rare power to express incredibly complex and nuanced emotions through melody alone. In recent years, the classically trained pianist, composer, producer, and arranger has shown his melodic ingenuity in such iconic hits as Miley Cyrus’s seven-times-platinum “Wrecking Ball,” garnered three Grammy nominations, and received an Oscar nod for co-writing The Weeknd’s seven-times-platinum “Earned It”—all while establishing himself as a highly esteemed recording artist.

Joe Dombrowski, presented by Comedy Records, is having a full weekend residency at the Royal Theatre from November 14th to 16th.

Native Metro Detroiter, Joe Dombrowski took the world by storm in 2017 with a viral April Fools’ Day spelling test prank that landed him multiple appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Don't get it twisted though! It takes at least 20 years to be an overnight sensation! Joe has been doing stand-up comedy since he was eight years old in his third-grade talent show. He's never stopped! Since Joe's rise to fame, he has been traveling the globe with his stand-up comedy which often highlights his outrageous family dynamics and of course his time as a former elementary school teacher.

Joe has been featured as a headlining act at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal and the New York comedy festival and will also be headlining two shows in the 2024 Netflix Is a Joke Fest at The Hollywood Improv. Joe is also incredibly humbled to be hosting a monthly show at the world-famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles, CA beginning fall 2024. When he’s not getting creative on stages and screens, Joe spends his time in Seattle, Washington producing his podcast “Social Studies” where he recaps outlandish stories from fans all over the country.

Amanda Seales is a comedian and creative visionary with a Master’s in African American studies from Columbia University.
